Founded in 1999 by Duane Sorenson, Stumptown's flagship 128 SW 3rd Ave cafe is the largest and most storied of the company's Portland locations, open since 2003 and still serving as a daily pilgrimage site for coffee obsessives. The bar pours espresso and pour-over alongside cold brew and batch drip, with pastries from Sparrow Bakery and Shoofly Vegan Bakery rounding out a serious all-day offering. Stumptown's direct-trade sourcing model, built over 25 years, remains the benchmark against which Portland's coffee renaissance measures itself.
