Barista at 539 NW 13th Ave was among the first cafes in Portland to operate on a rotating multi-roaster model, bringing Intelligentsia, Verve, Ecco Caffe, and Stumptown onto a single chalkboard menu before that approach became standard practice. Billy Wilson opened the Pearl location in 2010 after years at Albina Press, building a cafe that treats sourcing decisions with the same seriousness a sommelier applies to wine. Up to three espressos are on offer at any one time alongside a thorough filter bar.
