Morning Call traces its roots to 1870 in the French Quarter, making it one of the oldest chicory coffee stands in the city. The current location at 5101 Canal Blvd near the end of the Canal streetcar line keeps the tradition alive with chicory cafe au lait and beignets served into the early hours. The formula is stripped to its essentials: no wifi, no specialty menu, just that roasted-chicory blend poured into a ceramic cup. It is the honest counterpart to Cafe du Monde, quieter and less touristed.
