Mandabatmaz
Beyoglu · Istanbul
Open since 1967, Mandabatmaz is one of Istanbul's most celebrated addresses for traditional Turkish coffee. The name translates roughly as 'a buffalo would not sink in it,' a reference to the foam so thick it crowns every cup brewed in a copper cezve. The tiny outdoor spot on Olivya Gecidi, just off Istiklal Caddesi, operates simply and without spectacle, which is precisely why the line forms daily. Turkish coffee heritage does not get more canonical than this.
