Founded in 1958 by Gudny Gudjónsdóttir and Gudmundur Baldvinsson, Mokka Kaffi was the first cafe in Iceland to serve espresso and has remained substantially unchanged in the decades since. The walls are hung with rotating works by Icelandic artists and the menu stays focused: espresso, hot chocolate, and legendary house-made waffles. Sitting at Skolavordustigur 3A near the base of Hallgrimskirkja hill, it is one of the purest expressions of Reykjavik coffee culture.
