Kaffitar was founded in 1990 when Adalheidur Hedinssdottir sold the family car to start importing and roasting beans, making it one of Iceland's earliest specialty coffee operations. The Bankastræti 8 branch, one of six in the capital area, is the most central and historic, a short walk from Laekjartorg Square. Direct-trade sourcing and careful in-house roasting underpin a menu of espresso drinks and brewed coffee, plus a selection of artisan pastries and cakes.
