Kaikado Cafe
Shimogyo · Kyoto
Pouring beans from Nakagawa Wani Coffee
Housed in a 1927 Kyoto City Tram Depot converted by the sixth-generation tea-caddy maker Kaikado, this cafe is one of the most architecturally distinctive rooms in the city. Coffee is sourced from Japanese roaster Nakagawa Wani, while teas come from Marukyu Koyamaen and Uji-based Risho-en Chaho, served in Kaikado's own hand-rolled tin caddies. Closed Thursdays; a reservation-recommended destination for those who regard a well-made hojicha latte as seriously as a V60.
