Caffe Florian
San Marco · Venice
Founded in 1720, Caffe Florian is the oldest continuously operating coffee house in Italy and one of the oldest in the world, occupying the Procuratie Nuove arcade on Piazza San Marco. The ornate interior of gilded mirrors, frescoed panels, and velvet seating has changed little in three centuries. Coffee here is a historical rite rather than a specialty-coffee experience; prices reflect the setting. An orchestra plays on the piazza in warm months.
