Blue Bottle chose a 1920s brick warehouse on the banks of Suzhou Creek for its first-ever mainland China location, opened in 2022. The restoration by Schemata Architects preserved original structural elements while creating a light-filled specialty coffee space consistent with Blue Bottle's single-origin, no-flavoring philosophy. A second Shanghai location in Zhangyuan -- designed by Neri and Hu to resemble a primitive shelter within historic Shikumen architecture -- opened the same year.
