Krakow, by the cup
Poland · 21 hand-picked cafés
Krakow has one of Poland's most developed specialty coffee cultures, anchored by a handful of pioneering roasteries that opened in the early 2010s and have since raised standards across the city. Karma Coffee Roasters, which began roasting in Kazimierz in 2012, effectively seeded the third-wave scene here, and its beans now circulate through many of the best cafes in the city. The result is a layered ecosystem where dedicated brew bars, roastery showrooms, and coffee-forward brunch cafes coexist without feeling competitive.
Kazimierz, the former Jewish quarter south of the Old Town, remains the spiritual centre of specialty coffee in Krakow. Streets such as Mostowa, Starowisl'na, Miodowa, and Brzozowa cluster a remarkable density of quality cafes within a short walk, each with its own personality: literary and bookish at Cytat and Lokator, craft and handmade at Knitted Coffee, culturally rooted at Cheder. The neighbourhood's cobbled backstreets and converted tenements create a backdrop that rewards slow coffee tourism, and weekend mornings here draw locals who treat their choice of cafe as a statement of taste.
What distinguishes Krakow from other Polish coffee cities is the combination of serious roasting infrastructure and genuine neighbourhood diversity. The specialty scene is not confined to a single trendy district; it stretches north into Kleparz with Wesola Cafe, Blossom, and Bonjour Cava, west into the Old Town corridor around Krupnicza with Tektura and Karma Kawiarnia, and south into Podgorze and Zablocie where Knitted Coffee's Przemyslowa outpost sits beside the MOCAK contemporary art museum. The city also rewards visitors who appreciate coffee that is thoughtful without being precious, where a well-made V60 arrives without ceremony and the barista is happy to explain the origin.
