Masahiko and Rie Onishi returned from Melbourne in 2016 and squeezed a full specialty roastery into just eight square metres in Nishi Ward. The name Mel is a direct tribute to Melbourne's coffee culture that inspired them. Closed Mondays for roasting, the tiny shop draws a loyal neighbourhood crowd Tuesday through Sunday for freshly turned espresso and single-origin pourover.
