Gran Caffè Gambrinus
San Ferdinando · Naples
Founded in 1860 and housed in an ornate Belle Epoque interior near the Royal Palace, Gambrinus is arguably the most famous café in Italy. Oscar Wilde, Hemingway, and three generations of Neapolitans have stood at its marble counter for a shot of dense, dark espresso. The historic rooms, frescoed ceilings, and glass display cases loaded with sfogliatelle and babà make it a living monument to Neapolitan café culture. Pre-sweetened espresso is standard here, exactly as tradition demands.
