Cafe Brasileiro
Hakata · Fukuoka
Cafe Brasileiro is the oldest coffee house in Fukuoka, originally opened in 1934 by the state of Sao Paulo to promote Brazilian coffee in Japan. Rebuilt after World War II and reopened in Tenmayacho in 1952, it has survived as a working cafe for over seventy years, serving strong, traditional coffee in a space that carries the weight of local history. It is neither specialty nor third-wave, but an irreplaceable document of what coffee culture looked like before those terms existed.
