The oldest bar still in operation in Buenos Aires, inaugurated in 1864 at the corner of Carlos Calvo and Peru in San Telmo. Its two-story Italianate building preserves original early twentieth century tilework, woodwork, and a back-bar that has barely changed in a century. The menu runs to simple Argentine staples alongside strong espresso. A designation as a Bar Notable from the city legislature is well earned.
