Named after the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, this nonprofit specialty cafe trains and employs refugees as baristas through a rigorous SCA-standards program, producing some of the most thoughtfully prepared coffee in Berkeley. The Channing Way cafe serves a rotating menu of multi-roaster specialty coffees alongside pastries in a welcoming, well-equipped room near UC Berkeley. The social mission is integral -- every coffee purchase directly funds the barista training program and creates living-wage employment.
